How many solar panels fit on the roof?
A typical motorhome has room for 200–400 W. Combining fixed panels with a portable folding panel is useful on cloudy days or when you park in the shade.

How large a solar kit does a motorhome need?›
For summer weekend trips, a 200 W panel array and a 100 Ah LiFePO4 battery are often enough. Longer off-grid stays with a year-round fridge typically need 300–400 W of panels and a 200 Ah battery. The planner calculates the size from your actual appliances.
Can I install motorhome solar panels myself?›
You can normally install the DC side — panels, charge controller and battery — yourself as long as the voltage stays below 50 V DC. The 230 V side from the inverter must be installed by a qualified electrician. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Do solar panels work in winter?›
Yes, but output from November to February is typically only 10–20% of summer levels. Winter use requires more battery capacity and often support from shore power or engine charging.
Does a motorhome need an inverter?›
Only if you want to use 230 V appliances such as a coffee maker, charger or plug-in TV. Many devices can run directly on 12 V, which is more efficient.
How long does the system last?›
Solar panels typically last 25–30 years, a LiFePO4 battery 10–15 years or 3,000–6,000 cycles, and MPPT controllers and inverters around 10–15 years. The battery is usually the first component that needs replacing.
