How many solar panels does a cabin need?
As a rule of thumb, allow for 4.5 peak sun hours per summer day in Sweden. A typical cabin often needs 200–600 W of panels, depending mainly on whether the fridge runs all year.

How large a solar kit does a cabin need?›
It depends on how the cabin is used. For summer weekends, a 200–300 W panel array and a 100 Ah battery are often enough. A year-round fridge and longer stays typically need 400–600 W of panels and a 200 Ah battery. Kraftur calculates the size from your actual appliances.
Can I install cabin solar panels myself?›
You can normally install the DC side — panels, charge controller and battery — yourself as long as the voltage stays below 50 V DC. The 230 V AC side, including fixed inverter wiring, must be installed by a qualified electrician. Always follow the supplier's instructions and local regulations.
Do solar panels work during a Swedish winter?›
Yes, but output from November to February is typically only 10–20% of summer levels. If you plan to use the cabin in winter, allow extra battery capacity and consider a generator or shore-power charger.
Which inverter is suitable for a cabin?›
Pure sine wave output is essential for sensitive electronics. Size the inverter for the highest simultaneous load. For example, 2,000 W is enough for a coffee maker and chargers at the same time. The planner recommends a suitable size from your peak load.
How long does the system last?›
Solar panels typically last 25–30 years, a LiFePO4 battery 10–15 years or 3,000–6,000 cycles, and MPPT controllers and inverters around 10–15 years. The battery is usually the first component that needs replacing.
